Title The conservation of the natural resources of the United States, as a national problems
Date 1913
Description Conservation of the natural resources is the most important problem confronting the world to-day. It concerns vitally the wealth, power, and progress of the world, and the provision for posterity. In the United States, by far the richest country in natural resources, the problem ha special significance in each of its many phases - economic, scientific, social and political. This country has just awakened to its extravagant consumption, reckless waste, and inefficient utilization. Scientists, politicians and industrial leaders have startled the people with the authoritative information, that at the present rate of consumption, employing present methods, many of the resources will be exhausted in a few score of years. They have also emphasized the discouragingly inefficient use of the other great resources, until they have brought to the realization of the people the need of positive immediate action, the absolute necessity of conservation, to prevent the disappearance of all those riches, and the crumbling of the wealth, power, and influence of the nation.
