He stands without An extra flourish but with needed force To nominate George Washington to be Commander of an army made from all The colonies. Can Washington and not Another man unite them now as one? Another step toward freedom must be made: They must declare their independence now. Though noted for his writing skill he helps Confer the honor to his Southern friend, Tom Jefferson, to build a strength between The colonies, both North and South. Tom writes With eloquence but full of force that brings The cause refined before both God and man. His work not done, once more he stands to plead For freedom. Packing words with thoughtful force He argues well and not in vain. The roll Is called with only one abstaining vote. The Declaration stands! So jubilant He feels, he calls for "pomp, parade, and cheer Across the continent from this time hence, Without restraint or end, forevermorei" |
