Description The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of the Check and Connect intervention on high school students, mentors, and teachers. This study was conducted in a mid-size high school in the intermountain west with ten at-risk students in grades 10-12. Data in the form of past institutional records, monitoring forms, surveys, observations, and interviews were collected for eighteen weeks. The purpose of the Check and Connect program is to engage students academically so that they graduate from high school. In the course of two quarters of school, most students who participated in the Check and Connect improved their GPA, but their number of absences increased. Relationship building was a key factor in the appeal of this intervention for both students and mentors.
