Show These pages are condensation of several manuscripts agaregating hundreds of pages with explanations in detail of the statements put forth over 430 photographs were studied minutely obviously it would be out of place to attempt to reproduce them in this volume As the name implies this book isprimer not monograph Some of the material has been published previous1 but ot in this form nor giving more than fragments of symbolism presenation will lead to dlseussion out of that discussion will arisedogree of acceptance based Pon what 1s not rejected in the sifting process It will show that symbolism was etched upon the rocks symbolism of that time and place conversant to contemporaies employing no more nor less than they were accustomed to In kiva aitar decorations dress symbols plaza rites and seen on all sides in pottery and weaving much of which symbolismretained almost unchanged today Manwork upon the rocks was to fix those rites those prayers that constant supplication for rain in ihis arid region in permanent form before gods and men as is the end of all Pucbloan pre-historic and modern recorded expression Frank Beckwith Digital image 2003 Beckwith Family Al rights reserved |
