Title University Hospital Tanner Fountain
Subject Architecture; Art; Built Environment; Hospitals, University
Description "An unusual creation evoking thoughts of fast-running streams and the geyser fountains of Yellowstone National Park is the newest fountain donated by Obert C. and Grace A. Tanner," was how the Salt Lake Tribune (August 31, 1990) described the University Hospital fountain. The fountain, designed by Boyd Blackner, was one of the largest water features commissioned by the philanthropic couple. Two stepped brick fountain cones at either end recirculated 2,400 gallons of water that tumbled into a 600-foot long pool that ran the length of the parking terrace reaching to North Campus Drive. The fountain remained in front of University Hospital until it was removed to make way for an additional expansion of the medical center in 2006.
