Description This photograph collection documents the 1909 river expedition of Nathaniel Galloway and Julius Stone, accompanied by photographer Raymond Cogswell. Their three month journey took them from Green River, Wyoming to Needles, California. The expedition is generally considered by historians of the Colorado River to be the first that was undertaken purely for pleasure, similar to modern river runners.
