Show map has been developed. The physical characteristics and precipitation falling upon the ungaged watersheds were used to estimate the long- term mean annual water yield or runoff. The surface runoff for any watershed or drainage area can be determined by measuring the area between adjacent water yield lines and multiplying by the average depth of the area. The values on figure 13 represent the mean annual runoff for the period 1931- 1960. Seasonal Distribution of Flow Figure 14 shows the percentage of annual flow that normally occurs in each month. The average monthly flow for a 12- month period would be 8.5 percent per month. Actual flows range from 0.8 percent to 35.4 percent per month. The figures represent the average monthly flows for the water years shown on the map for each station. The water year begins October 1 and ends September 30 ( i. e. the water year 1964 begins October 1, 1963 and ends September 30, 1964). In the West Colorado Hydrologic Area peak flows occur in April, May, and June at most stations. At some stations, peak flow times vary considerably. Land Ownership Land ownership is divided into 13 categories, most of which are federal and State agencies. The table which follows shows the breakdown of land ownership in the five counties that account for the majority of the land in the West Colorado Hydrologic Area. Figures are in acres for 1967. The primary highways in the West Colorado Hydrologic Area are U. S. 50 and 6, Interstate 70, U. S. 89, and Utah highway 10. Several secondary State and local roads connect these highways with other areas. There is no commercial airline service in the area. However, small airports exist at Price, Huntington, Green River, Hanksville |
