Abstract The disposal, volume reduction, solidification, drying and incineration of industrial liquid waste have become common practice. In this work, the performance of the triple coaxial tube incinerator is studied. In the incinerator, waste liquids are atomized on the center line of the riser in parallel to the upward stream of methane air mixture so that evaporation and pyrolysis of the droplets take place successively in the flame. A solution of water-ethanol-ammonium sulfate is used as model waste liquid. The experiments are performed to examine the flammability limit, the NOx emission by the thermal NOx and the oxidization behavior of nitrogen compounds in the liquid when internally circulating particles are introduced in the riser. Applicability of the selective non-catalytic NOx reduction (SNCR) using urea as reductant agent was investigated as well. The enlargement of the flammable region and the low NOx emission are realized by the contribution of the circulating particles. It is also recognized that the temperature in the gas stream at the urea injection position is important factor for the SNCR.
