Show Department of School Work
George F. McAfee, D.D., Superintendent
Rev. Robert M. Craig, Asst. Superintendent
156 Fifth Avenue
New York

New York, November 8th, 1905.

Mr. George B. Sweazey,
Salt Lake City, Utah.

My dear Mr. Sweazey:-

We regret exceedingly to ask you to make this change in your force of teachers, and yet we are sure that it is for the good of the work. Since Miss Huber left Mendon, we have been in receipt of letters in regard to leaving that place uncared for. Now, we have an opportunity to send one to you as matron who could not fill the position at Mendon, and so we shall ask you to release Miss Huber, and allow her to take up the work again at her old place. Miss Lena Briggs was commissioned by the Board for Nuyaka, and we should have sent her there but, owing to the changes which are to take place in the tribal relations of the Creeks on the 4th of March next, we are uncertain as to the future of the school, and Mr. Robe thinks, therefore, that they would better do for the present without the extra helper. This leaves the assistant matron unoccupied, whom we can commission for the Collegiate Institute, and thus have a teacher again at Mendon.

I trust that this will not cause you great inconvenience, and I feel that you will realize how much it means to the people of Mendon to have that school continued.

I have written Miss Briggs, whose home is in San Jose, California, to go directly to Salt Lake City, and that I will have communicated with you in regard to the matter.

Mr. Craig is not at present in the office or he would have written himself, but he authorizes this change.

Yours very truly,

Susan H. Pingry
(Mrs. J. F)

|
