Show THE WATERCOLOR ART SOCIETY- HOUSTON is proud to host the 25th Anniversary Signature Membership Exhibition of the Western Feaeration !~Watered or Societies Bank of America April -8, 2000 700 Louisiana Houston, Texas WFS HISTORY - The purpose of the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies is to encourage and recognize artistic excellence through juried competitions and to stimulate interest in watermedia through annual exhibitions and the exchange of educational information. WFS was founded by the New Mexico Watercolor Society through the foresight and work of Dr. David Gale (1915-1980). Today WFS includes over 5000 artists in 11 regional societies west of the Mississippi River. No more than five societies can belong from any one state. WFS sponsors an annual juried exhibition, which is hosted by a regional member society on a rotating basis. This year the WFS exhibition is hosted by WAS-H and celebrates our 25th anniversary with our first Signature Membership Exhibition at Bank of America. This invitational show is talcing the place of our normal juried exhibition. Any member ofWestern Federation who has participated in five or more WFS juried exhibitions was eligible. Each Signature Member was invited to send one or two paintings that would represent their work. Out of 77 who were invited, 40 artists were able to participate in this year's exciting show, which is part ofWATERMEDIA 2000. Works on paper, including paper collage, were created with a variety of water-based media: casein, gouache, tempera, acrylic, and transparent or opaque watercolors. A diversity of artistic expression and an impressive array of talent is gathered here for your enjoyment and inspiration.
