Show Watercolor Art Society - Houston In 1969, fifteen watercolorists formed the Houston chapter of the Dallas-based Southwestern Watercolor Society. This group grew to 300 members by 1975, and voted then to form the autonomous organization, Watercolor Art Society-Houston (WAS-H). The membership is now well over 500. WAS-H is a charter member of the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, established in 1976. The purpose of WAS-H is to further the cause and interest in watercolor art through teaching, demonstrations, outreach, and exhibitions. Activities include classes and demonstrations, monthly shows of works by members, and two major shows, one for members; the other invites participation from artists worldwide. "PaintIns/ Outs" promote camaraderie with fellow artists. Members also provide service to the community with traveling exhibitions, and working with children in hospitals and schools. A newsletter, the WASHRAG, is published monthly. Meetings are held on the second Sunday of each month, September through May, with programs by guest artists. The society's office, workshop, and gallery are located at 1601 West Alabama, where paintings are exhibited year-round. Watercolor Art Society- Houston is a non-profit organization.
