Image of Original Design quilt created in 1910 by Mary Elizabeth Spendlove Workman. Also includes questionnaires describing the quilt completed by Gina Slaugh as part of the Utah Quilt Guild's documentation days held from 1988-1994. When Elizabeth was a young girl, her three brothers, who delighted in teasing her by digging a hole. They buried her up to her neck and told her the devil would get her feet. She was terribly afraid until her father came along and rescued her. One of six families who was first to move to Hurricane Flat to begin a new town. When she had a hard time seeing to thread the eyes of the needles, the family would thread a lot of needles for her. |
