Show CALVIN RAWLINGS #1 didn't this add to the large companies' power even more? CR: Well, there were a lot of carpetbagging and fly-bynight companies that came into existence, of course. Everyone, almost everyone, that was involved at all organized a company and sold penny stock. There was a lot or marketing, a lot of activity in all these stocks. In fact, it was at a point where nationally everybody was looking out here to see if they could get in on the bonanza which looked like this area had developed into, so far as these vanadium and uranium was concerned. So in view of the publicity incident to the developments down there and the operation of the stocks, there was a boom market for a while, and a lot of people made a lot of money on these stocks which later became valueless and worthless. MH: As a result of a lot of these companies being termed fraudulent or being actually worthless, was there a lot of legal turmoil or action brought when this occurred? CR: Yes. Stockholders who had been defrauded, I think, brought actions to see if they could recover something of their investment. But these was so much promotion, promoters were very, promote these companies 14 very active. and make They'd false |
