Show MIDORI SHIMANOUCHI LEDERER #1 she said and whoever the neighbor was called her. And so it was very difficult, and of course, she was interrupted. I think she lost a semester. She had a ery difficult time. She wasn't in camp very long, but as you say, it doesn't make any difference. And there was a Japanese professor there, and she was the only Japanese student at Northhampton. And talk about towns people, I don't know those people in Delta--I remember going into Delta maybe once or twice, but in Northhampton there was a movement to throw her out because she was Japanese. So she has gone through--we have all been through that, but for her she said, "I guess I will have to finish my studies somewhere else." And I don't think the school was that supportive. You now, they are just scared, I guess. ST: Oh, sure they are. ML: And my sister knows the person who started the campaign is a local jeweler in Northhampton. ST: Were you involved at all with camp politics? ML: No, only to say, "Don't sign up." [Laughter) It scared my mother half to death because of that. No I was not. I certainly was old enough, and I had been in very many sort of left wing causes before the war as a youngster, and scared my mother and father half to death.
