Description Dr Ward was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1923. Dr Ward received both his B.S. (1944) and his M.D. (1946) from the University of Utah. Dr Ward later earned an M.P.H. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1967. Dr Ward completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at Salt Lake County General Hospital from 1949-1951. Dr Ward was a Fellow in Medicine and Rheumatology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr Ward joined the University faculty in 1954. Dr Ward was the first Chief of the Rheumatology Division, serving from 1957 to 1988. Dr Ward was Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine from 1966-1970. Dr Ward was named a consultant at the VA Hospital in 1957. Dr Ward retired in 1992 as Professor Emeritus. Dr Ward received the American College of Rheumatology's Distinguished Rheumatologist Award in 1994. Dr Ward died in 2004.
