Description Dr Gesteland was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1938. Dr Gesteland received both his B.S (1960) and M.S. (1961) from the University of Wisconsin. Dr Gesteland earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Harvard University in 1965. Dr Gesteland was a National Science Foundation Fellow Dr Gesteland was a Post-Doctoral Fellow (1966-67) at the Institute de Biologie Moléculaire in Geneva. Dr Gesteland was Assistant Director for Research at Cold Spring Harbor, New York from 1967-1973. Dr Gesteland came to the University in 1973 as Professor of Biology and Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator. Dr Gesteland was Chair of the Department of Human Genetics from 1991-2000. Dr Gesteland was appointed Vice President of Research in 2000. Dr Gesteland is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Genetics.
