Description In 1975, the Utah State Legislature approved a $50 million appropriation to expand the existing medical center. An accompanying fund-raising campaign added an additional $10 million. On November 18, 1977, ground was broken for the medical center expansion. Pictured (left-to-right): Governor Scott M. Matheson, University President David P. Gardner, Vice President for Health Sciences, John A. Dixon, MD and George S. Eccles, Chairman of the Board of First Security Corporation and Chair of the fund-raising campaign.
