Isabelle T. Anderson was born in Conifer, Colorado in 1905. Ms Anderson received her B.A. in English from the University of Colorado in 1927 and her B.S. in Library Sciences from the University of Illinois in 1930. Ms Anderson began her working career as Assistant Librarian at University of Colorado School of Medicine library in 1927. Ms Anderson was Medical Librarian at the Ramsey County Medical Society Library in St. Paul, Minnesota. Ms Anderson came to the University of Utah in 1947 as the first trained medical librarian spent the next eight years developing resources and services to service the needs of the new, four-year School of Medicine. This included consolidating the medical, pharmacy and dental materials and developing the clinical collection at the Salt Lake County General Hospital. Ms Anderson was Medical Librarian, and Assistant Professor of Library Science at the University from 1947 to 1956. In 1956 Ms Anderson left the University to became Medical Librarian at the Denver Medical Society. In 1960, Ms Anderson went to the National Library of Medicine to work in the Reference Division and became head of the Circulation and the Interlibrary Loan Division. In 1961, Ms Anderson became Head of the Technical Services Division at the Washington University School of Medicine Library in St Louis, Missouri. Ms Anderson was later Head of the St Joseph's Hospital Library in Phoenix, Arizona from 1965 to 1970. Ms Anderson was responsible for bringing the annual meeting of the Medical Library Association to Salt Lake City in 1953. Ms Anderson was President of the Medical Library Association (1958-1959). Ms Anderson contributed to early editions of the Handbook of Medical Library Practice as well as working on the certification program for medical librarians. Ms Anderson taught at the library schools at the University of Minnesota, College of St. Catherine, University of Denver and Catholic University. Ms. Anderson died in 1971. |
