Show DONALD ON B. ROBBIN JULY 8, 2006 through France. I was near Fontainebleau for a couple of months just camped out in the woods with nothing to do but be there. BEC: That's where all that Boy Scout training came in handy. DON: I did get to go over to Fontainebleau and visit one day while we were there. Anyway, I finally got orders to report to the Eighty-third Infantry Division, 908th Field Artillery Battalion in November. By late September Division had moved into Luxembourg on Patton's left flank. Patton's Army, having outrun its supplies, was forced to halt. On November 11, 1944, the 83rd Division was reassigned from Patton's Third Army to Hodge's First Army. Mr. Robbins was assigned as a forward observer to B-battery in the 908'h FA battalion in November of '44, two weeks before the move north from Third Army.] That was November of '44. I reported to the 908th. They were in place on the banks of the Moselle River in a holding position. At that time, the Eighty-third Division, of which the 908th FA was part, was 12 |
