Show TEPHEN J. MERRILL FHM: Because of ... ? pril 9, 2004 JM: Because I think they butt into other peoples business, and want too much, and require too much. FHM: Did that cause any problems with your work by not joining the union? Were you forced to join it? SJM: No, I did join it later on when I became a supervisor. But I was more or less forced into that. After a few years, and I found out a little bit about it, I got out. FHM: Can you explain what you were supervising? SJM: Well, at the time I had a crew on the assembly line in the hangars, and I worked on the fuel system ofF -4 aircraft. FHM: What kind of work did you do on that? SJM: Overhauled the fuel system. The whole aircraft was overhauled, but I worked on the fuel system. FHM: Okay. Did you develop any friendships during your training, or your work? SJM: Well, everybody was one big family there, but nothing that was out of the ordinary, no. FHM: Did you have any family members, or friends, that were in the military during that time? SJM: I had my brother that was in the marines, Alvin Merrill, at the time. And that's all I had, yeah. We had one son that was in the Air Force. FHM: Was he in during wartime? SJM: Yes. FHM: Do you remember which war? 11 |
