Abstract Mr. Harmston joined the Army Air Corps on March 10, 1943 and took officer training in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was assigned duty on the California coast. Attended adjutant general school in Fort Washington, Maryland, and was assigned as battalion adjutant to a black battalion. Their duties were to load and unload ships. Their unit treceived raining in the Brooklyn Navy Yard before being shipped to England for more training. They spent the duration of the war in France guarding German POWs. Their unit was then shipped through the Panama Canal to the Philippines. He was discharged on January 16, 1946 with the rank of Captain. Mr. Harmston operated a restaurant and motel in Roosevelt, Utah. He served as a Utah State Senator and was director of the Department of Natural Resources. Interviewed by Joel C. Calderon. 15 pages.
