Show DWAINE ALLRED MARCH 27,2001 DWA: Well I ve cleaned a few johns (laughs). I just think it was 1narvelous. ee, Dee [Dwaine's son] didn't go in the service but he was in the National Guard. And they got away with 1nurder. And I tell him If you 'd gone in the regular and then did what you did you 'd have been peeling potatoes." They d con1e hmne in their uniforms with his buddies to our place. They'd parachute- he was in the special forces-cmne hmne and in their unifonn played rook! (laughs) I'd tell hi1n, "You're not in the service, on.' ARD: He thought he was though. DWA: He hated the service. But the main reason to n1e he wasn't in the service. If you had a child that was giving you trouble, you'd go in the Marine Corp. BBL: hape up fast huh? DWA: Let me tell you, just to prove a point. We w nt down to see Dee, Ardis and I did, and that shows you how loose Guard is. And we went in to the officer of the day, told him who we were We d like to see our boy were down in California to see our boy.' And he says, "Sure." Well there was a little Filipino sergeant, he had a white scarf, so immaculate, hat straight and just perfect on anything. And he was a staff s rgeant and the officer of the day told him we were th re to see Allred. He said 'No you're not.' This officer is telling the sergeant 'What do you mean these folks have driv n all the wa from Salt Lake." And he said "I don't care, they' re not seeing Allred. ' Dee had, I cant remember what he 'd done, and do you know we drove all the way to California and we didn't get to see Dee. That's the only thing I had ever s n that was discipline that little Filipino sergeant. o then Dee called me about ten o'clock at night Dad, I'm leaving. I m going to dessert. I'm going up to San Francisco. They can t find 33 |
