Show Richard F. North 2 arch 2 02 what the country was called at that time where Tunisia now is. I think it uni ia. L t look at Africa. JOEL: Well, it's Tunisia still, I think. Either Tunisia or Morocco you were at. It wa all French territories back then. RICH: Yah, right. We landed at Tripoli one time, then we flew over here to Casa Blanca and Morocco and from there then we flew across the Atlantic Ocean over to Natal in South America. I think it's Natal. JOEL: Did you fly in a group? RICH: No, we were just all by ourselves, just one airplane. JOEL: That's kind of unusual. Usually they fly in groups back to the States. RICH: There it is. Natal, right there on the eastern most tip of South America. We landed there. Then we had an interesting experience. As we left Natal we were heading up here to Trinidad, the island up there on the north, and when we got out here over the Atlantic we lost an engine. So we made an emergency landing at little air force base up here on the north coast of Brazil, there it is, Sao Luis. We were really persecuted there because we had to stay there for a week. We had a beautiful beach while they flew an engine down from the United States to replace that engine on our unit that had gone out. So we had a nice little vacation there, although we were a little anxious because we were anxious to get back to the United States, but we still we had a nice experience there. Then we flew on up to Trinidad, and from Trinidad up to southern Florida where we were discharged. I'll finish that part of the travel log by telling you that I took the train from Miami up past Lincoln, Nebraska. I had pre-arranged with my fiancee to jump 8 |
