And there I was, with this bandage on my head trying to d thi art and it turn d out to be pretty funny (laughs). And all the town would con1e to th play. w w uld have a play. Oh, we had quite a few plays. I remember a whole lot of dif:b r nt- BEC: JOA: BEC: JOA: BEC: JOA: BEC: And were these all varieties? Or did you do hakespeare or- ? Oh, no Shakespeare. No? No. No. These were just other kind of plays that were had a story. Yeah. And I don't know. One of the English teachers, I think picked it out. Oh. I see. Well that probably generated a lot of sympathy, didn't it? People say, "Oh, she went on even though she's hurt!" JOA: Yeah. What a little girl, do that! I don't know if they did or not. But that was just one of the incidents. So, I suppose if I did anything, it was plays, maybe. BEC: Yeah. Well, that's something. Now, you mentioned the Depression, just briefly. How was your family affected by the Depression? JOA: You know that I don't remember suffering at all from the Depression. Because we were just kind of fortunate that way, I think. But we didn't have very much. BEC: Your father always was able to keep employment? JOA: yes. And my mother did sewing ·and she did-my mother was really she was really a character. She told fortunes. 11 |
