Show HAZEL ONSTOTT BEC: And you did that every morning? HAZ: Yeah. BEC: Then you'd go to school? HAZ: Yeah. BEC: Then did you work there at night, too? Was it open during the evening? 1 '2 HAZ: Yeah, sometimes. That's the way Papa kept up with where we were (laughs). I usually had to go down there and then at nine o'clock he'd say, "You can go home and study now." BEC: Oh, really? HAZ: I don't know. Maybe I studied some down there. BEC: It sounds like he ran a pretty tight ship, pretty strict. HAZ: Yeah, he did. He knew where I was all the time. BEC: So being the youngest, then, your older brothers and sisters ... HAZ: I had a younger sister. BEC: That's right. I'm sorry, I didn't mean that. I meant to say, being part of the younger crew, your older brothers and sisters were already gone? HAZ: Back in those days, they all stayed where Papa was. I had an older brother and he already married rather young and they had children. They were several years younger than I was, but we played together. BEC: Oh, because they were close enough in age. HAZ: Yeah. BEC: So did all your brothers and sisters helped with the business? |
