| Abstract |
Mrs. Donkin (b. 1918) details her family history and recalls growing up in Lewiston, Idaho, graduating from North Cache High School, and attending Utah State University. She joined the Navy (WAVES) in May 1944, received training at Hunter College and Cedar Falls, Iowa, and was assigned to the San Francisco District Discipline Office. She was discharged in April 1946. She also talks about her marriage and raising five children. 33 pages. |

Hey raldin . 11 t camp-"I never have gone by Gerry· I always have gon by "Okay." We got our pictures out and showed her Geraldine you ith u t t camp because here are pictures and you're in it. BEC: Oh, and she didn't remember it? JAN: She didn't remember it. But, anyway then I remember boot camp becaus o all the marching and drills and I remember the last day the physical we were supposed to have a physical before we got sent to our destination, our schooling. So we marched and I can't remember how many blocks we marched, and when we got over there they asked us all how we felt. If we felt real good, we passed the physical. That was our physical. BEC: Is that right (laughs). JAN: I remember Ruth had some problems that she talked to them about, but that was the physical. So Ruth got sent to Cedar Falls, Iowa, the same as I did. We went to Cedar Falls, Iowa, but I was in another group. I didn't get to room with her anymore. We used to do a lot of things together, but she had her own group of friends and I had some that were in the classes that I took. BEC: Now what was this schooling for? JAN: I went in as an apprentice seaman. Then they divided you according to the tests that you pass. So she, I'm sure, moved up a lot faster than I did because I had to take another test and then I became a yeoman first class. No, it was seaman first class. Then I 18 |
