Show MONTEREY 1 Doctor Missionary Dr. Alma Locke Cooke-for the past fourteen years a medical missionary worker at Lint-sing, North China. She will speak Wednesday, (May 8) at the meeting of the association of Congregational churches to be held in the Mayflower church, Pacific Grove. C1GREGAHL CHURCH GROUP TO VENE AT GROVE The fiftieth annual meeting of the Santa Clara association of Congregational churches will be held next Wednesday, May 8, at the Mayflower Congregational church, Pacific Grove. Rev. John H. Hunter is the pastor or the entertaining church. The day's activities will commence at 10 o'clock in the morning and continue on through the day. There will be two special speakers, Dr. Alma Locke Cooke, who will speak at 3:00 in the afternoon on "What's Happening in China," and George N. White, who will give the dinner address at 6:30 in the evening, choosing for his subject, "Golden Chambers." Dr. Cooke has spent the past 14 years in medical missionary work at Lintsing, China. Single handed she cared for wounded soldiers and bandits impartially when for months she was' the only foreign doctor at Lintsing. Immediately following the meeting here she will sail again for China. George N. White, the evening speaker, is the foremost Negro educational leader in the Congregational and Christian churches of the United States, being the alumni secretary for their collleges and schools for Negroes in the south. A graduate of Atlanta and Chicago universities, he has been in church service for 31 years. Included in the association which meets at Pacific Grove Wednesday are churches from Campbell, Pacific Grove, Palo Alto, Pescadero, San Carlos Santa Cruz, san Juan, San Jose, San Mateo, Saratoga, Soquel, Sunnyvale, Redwood City and Woodside. All church members are cordially invited to attend all sessions. |
