Show among the Miao on the Hast, Horth, and West of us. He i s exceedingly h&^-py in h i s marriage p r o s p e c t s . You r e c a l l that when he l e f t Wuting for Yunnan, Mar, 1934, he proceeded via Sianfu, fjhensi! That was to" s e t t l e his fate" with. Miss Beatrice Eagle, a nurse of the Eng Baptist Missn, who had a.t tended the Lang Schl with him, in Pek the year before. The marriage i s to take pica i n Hong Kong, Oct 26th, in the big Church of England Ca.thedral. We saw i t, en route here. He i s to s t a r t the coming Wed., if well enough. Just now he i s having some bowel t r o u b l e , and sends in to ms for continued treatment, from Stone Gateway. With him i s to go Mrs Cathie Dymond May, for an operation to remove her offending appendix! Among other a n x i e t i e s the past week has been one abt her, for she has had a refapse - not a very serious one, however. The several she had before were more severe, especially the one in June, before Dr Woods went on h i s vacation for a l l of July. She had to c a l l him in the n i g h t . Won't we be GLAD when t h a t offending member i s out! Besides, she suffers from t r o p i c a l Sprue. When l a s t on f u r l o , 3 y r s ago, she was t r e a t ed for that in the London School of Tropical Hed.gosp, and g r e a t l y benefitted. Her relapses are more and more severe, especially the past year. Sometimes Sprue i s b e n e f i t t e d by an appendectomy. Here's hoping and praying! Their two children are in the midst of whooping cough, which has Oeen GREATLY b e n e f i t t e d by 3 i n j e c t i o n s , each, of the .Anti-pertussis vaccine. And Dr Woods i s a l l aglow with his prospective marriage! It, too, is to take place in Honfc Kong, but Hov 30th. I t i s to take place in the Eng Meth Church, where we worshipped the Sun night we were there - before Irene and I took the 10 P M steamer for En a l l - n i g h t t r i p to Canton - such as Tf Aunt Florence Holferty, and Uncle Joe H, and party took. The H's were t h r i l l e d , indeed, over t h e i r v i s i t to Canton, duplicating the sights that we saw, only they saw more - for they had \ day more than awe, t h e r e . Going over to the mainland, from H K, to Kowloon (Chiu-iung, or Hine Dragons) , Aunt Florence v i s i t e d with the wife of the Brit.ABible Soc agent, wi o told Her tha.t the Dr Ted Stevensons( "Bunny" Scott, is Mrs St,) were spending the summer with, the Scott parents in the north; (Peitaiho??) On the 11th i n s t, the Miracle Baby, Helen P r i s c i l l a Stam, was a yr old; on the 13th, Bunny was married 'one year. We think i t was exceedingly thotful of l l i n o r Danton to send us an announcement of her marriage to Mr Reischauar, in Tokyo, July 5th. She , and he taught there the pas$ year - in Mission School*, I' think i t was. I have w r i t t e n her - a t e n t h of the well-wishes we bear them. With a l l these weddings, and the two of t h i s Mission in Tientsin, in J u l y , and t h e i r receptions at P e i t a i h o , one being that of Rev Eric Barton and h i s fiancefe, Hiss 'Doris Powell, who v i s i t e d at wuting for a month in Feb and March l a s t , and to whom wa l o s t our h e a r t s , and with our own 38th anniversary having been so happily passed in Yunnanfu, la.st l a t e June, we are made to feel real romantic, ourselves! The- 2nd one in T-sin, end recept i o n at PTH, was that of Miss Grace Parker, who was in Lang School with Margaret, l a s t f a l l - to Rev Mr Wright, at work in the Hunan mission. Miss Feng was put to bad again, with her ueptie u l c e r . It had been troubling her for almost a l l the time she tesAnere. How she i s on f u l l < Sippy d i e t , end doing b e t t e r - with r e s t in bed, besides. Your Aunt Myra Sawyar was to s a i l for Vancouver,-and Cleveland, end her course in anaesthetics there, and MSJSMXK then furlo, a week ago todayB I f ever anyone deserved a f u r l o , and r e s t , and happy a s s o c i a t i o n s , i t is she. Please God, may she havelfcefo! AMD MAY YOU ALL see her!- i s a further p r a y e r . We think of Arthur's probable entrance into Yale Medical a# t h i s time; of KJT s t a r t i n g soon, t h i s month, on h i s Jr year at Qberlin, after a busy summer of work, again in the "Y" camp, Lake Geneva, Wls - now promoted frm w a i t e r ' s job, to the "white c o l l a r job", in the Camp's office; of h i s - further triumphs in t e n n i s , etc. We th^ink of Arthur happily ending, a,bt Sect 1 s t , his summer camp job, in the Cong(l one at Crystal Lake, Mich, his 2" summer t h e r e , and he, tooP promoted to a job in the o f f i c e . We think of Hfci end S a l l i e r i g h t iiow having t h e i r vacation "somewhere" with Chas S t e l l e & h i s fiancee, Margaret ""ehlm. And lore fees to 4IX, H&Hjt^ |
