Show FROM THE AMERICAN COMMITTEE CHINA FAMINE FDND New York, N. Y., B I B L E H O U S E . N E W Y O R K January 15, 1931. "TO THE AMERICAN MINISTER." "DKAH SIR:--fifteen miUion people are now facing death from starvation in China; Money-is desperately needed for food. We are depending upon the churches to help in collecting it. "The churches of America alone create that deep, moral enthusiasm through which multitudes of the people of China can be saved. The churches can be led to do this splendid work through their ministers. Others must help, but this creative power belongs primarily to the ministry. We therefore appeal to the people of your church through you, their minister. "We ask a great service; that you and your brother ministers of all churches, o-rp rrt'rr, take whatever steps are necessary to secure from your community gifts commensurate with China's needs. "We offer these simple suggestions: - ' 1. That you make an appeal from your own pulpit. '£. That you secure the organization of a local committee in your community. In the great majority of communities we have no Other hope of securing a local organization, and without local organization there wMl not be the steady flow of funds required. "This appeal and any coming from your own denomination are one. Money sent by you to the Treasurer will be credited to your denomination, and at the close of the committee's work a report will be rendered to the proper authorities of each church concerned. Sincerely yours, "THOMAS W. LAMONT, Chairman, American Committee. "F. W. BIBLE, Director of Church Organization." TO THE 1000 PROTESTANT MINISTERS OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA: BRETHREN:- We must work in perfect accord with the requests given above, and as a COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE for this state. Will each of you do the 'two things requested in the official letter of Mr. Lamont and Mr. Bible, both in your own church and in your community? The crisis in China will reach its climax in May and June. By July the wheat crops will begin to come in. The greatest need and the best opportunity to help is yet before you. A steady, repeated effort alone can meet the emergency. • Ask yOur local newspaper to join in giving full publicity to the need of China. Ask your local banks to put up wall cards, offerings to receive and forward contributions. Organize your community and reach it systematically and thoroughly. Send money to your denominational Mission Board; or to Vernon Mun-roe, Treasurer of the National Committee, Bible House, New York City, or to the Bank of California, San Francisco, which is the Central Depository for Northern California. Yours, to preach CHRIST with food in stricken China. COMMITTEE OF STATE CHURCH FEDERATION |
