January 7, 1874 - Salt Lake City to St. George, Utah; Sharp, John, to President Brigham Young. They have borrowed $50,000 for the Utah Southern Railroad at 2 1/2 percent per month. States gross earnings for Utah Central and Utah Southern railroads. Informs Young of the business being done and conditions of road beds. Rock for the temple has been coming in larger amounts and stone cutters have been kept employed. No trouble with snow blockades on railroad yet. Sends best regards. January 17, 1876 - Chicago, Illinois, to (Salt Lake City); Sharp, John, to President Brigham Young. Business letter discussing prices of elevator, engine, and boiler. Will write later from New York. January 23, 1876 - Troy, New York, to Salt Lake City; Sharp, John, to President Brigham Young. Thinks he has successfully obtained $80,000 for the Summit County road. Mr. Dillon said they wanted to have a voice in the direction of the Utah Southern Railroad and wanted it run to the best advantage of the stockholders. A private note at the end is a refusal to accept an honorable position Young had hinted to him about. He felt he did not have time to devote to it |
