Dr Dere received both his undergraduate degree in zoology in 1975 and his M.D. in 1980 from the University of California, Davis. Dr Dere trained in internal medicine at the University of Utah and at the University of California San Francisco. Dr Dere during that time taught at the the School of Medicine where students gave him the Outstanding Teaching Awards in 1982. Dr Dere was named clinical professor of the year in 1989. In the 1990s, Dr. Dere held an academic appointment at Indiana University School of Medicine, where he was Clinical Associate Professor where he taught physical diagnosis and was an attending Physician on the internal medicine service. Dr Dere spent 25 years in the biopharmaceutical industry. Dr Dere is Executive Director of Personalized Health and Co-Principal Investigator of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center. Dr Dere is Professor of Internal Medicine and holds the B. Lue and Hope S. Bettilyon Presidential Endowed Chair in Internal Medicine for Diabetes Research. |
