Dr White was born in Orlando, Florida in 1943. Dr White received his B.S from the University of Oregon in 1965 and his Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1971. Dr White was a Fellow at the Jane Coffin Childs Foundation at Stanford University School of Medicine from 1971-1975. From 1975-1978, Dr White was Assistant Professor of Microbiology at the University of Massachusetts School of Medicine. Dr White came to the University in 1980 as an Associate Professor in the Department of Cellular, Viral and Molecular Biology. Dr White was an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute from 1980-1994. Dr White was Co-Chair of the Department of Human Genetics from 1984-1994 and Professor in the Department of Human Genetics from 1985-1997. Dr White served as Chair of the Department of Oncological Sciences from 1994-2001. Dr White was Executive Director of Huntsman Cancer Institute from 1994-1999. He was Senior Director of science at the Huntsman Cancer Institute from 1999-2001. Dr White was the Director of the Ernest Gallo Clinic and Research Center in Emeryville, California and Rudi Schmid Distinguished Professor and Vice-Chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of California-San Francisco. Dr White died in 2018. |
