Show -2 Almost the first week of walkihg over the newly acquired farm he begm to find Indian arrowheads knowing th tr value he picked them up am then began the hobby which he has steadily pursued for over fifey yoars Hs start was in archeology Those ramblings over the hills brought him much forv jiiking vas good those days and none before him visited him and his brother Barclay at their homes in Clear Lake miny years ago asd afterwards from time to time At the height of thelcombined accumlation they had many hundreds of arrowheads some fish body type plain unenotched simple forms then up an up progressively into the more select kinds both as to form to color The best forms were what they called the butterfly and as type ek quisitely cut delicate workmanship andtreasure in my collectorashibit Over the years notwithstonding the many timeshave visited the brothers at their homes never took any pho tograchs of thetrPR collection iy After having worked the fam md getting excellent results Bnory b7egan going to Clear Lake about four miles east This wamuch better field They found arrowheads vers borers ani fraguents of pottery scrapers drills gra Ususlly in our territory the pot tery is made fromgray clay notbuff as we have no buff scblack It After their field here some of it 1s painted usually the paint being in is commonly called black on gray ware having worked Glear Lako thoroughly the brothers extended trips to distant Sevier Lake This site was even richer Besides the usual run of the mill things metates were added and one very fine evidence of Iniian occupation washabitationte shallow post holes showed where supporting pillars posts had once held up some kind ofroof in the center wasfireplace rimmed Digital image 2003 Beckwith Family Al rights reserved |
