Description |
The purpose of this study was to understand the experiences of single men receiving services from an emergency shelter in the intermountain west. Using participant observation and solicited diaries from seven participants, findings highlighted the impact of unpredictable service treatment through unreliable and inconsistent services, the negligence of men's safety and security, staff preferences and personalities, favoritism and relationships, and a need for respect. Findings showed a lack of recognition of men's worth, dignity, and humanity, which needs to be addressed by organizations and improved upon by taking a human rights-based approach to service provision. |
