The goal of this project was to gain a better understanding of the most important factors to consider when creating a college-bound learning environment for refugee students. I conducted my own interviews with five refugee students at a school in Utah that serves a primarily refugee student population. The analysis of the data resulted in the formation of several criteria that help create a successful educational environment for refugees. The research shows that refugee students need encouragement and support in all aspects of their life in order to thrive in post-secondary education. There are several factors, including successful integration and building relationships with teachers that increase the likelihood of attending college. Based on these findings, I made several recommendations to educators, parents and case-workers on how to increase college readiness for refugee students. |
