Description Presenting Symptom: Blurred vision OD. Pathology: Embolism. The patient was a 56-year old male who developed blurred vision in the superior field of his right eye the week before. He had had two episodes of transient right-sided hemiplegia in the previous 2 years but was otherwise well. He was normotensive and had no signs of cardiac disease. The fundus showed almost complete obliteration of the inferior retinal vessels, opacification of the corresponding retina and a few splinter hemorrhages at the border of the opacity - i.e. in the area of collateral supply. Especially noteworthy is the white embolus on the disc at the point of emergence of the retinal vessels on the edge of the physiologic cup. Disease/ Diagnosis: Retinal artery occlusion.
