Show INTER-MOUNTAIN CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR. <br><br> WHAT CHRISTIANITY HAS DONE FOR UTAH. <br> By REV. R. G. McNEICE, D. D., <br> For nearly twenty years Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Salt Lake City. <br><br> That there is moral progress in Utah cannot be doubted, and one of the best ways of measuring this progress is to look back twenty-five years and notice what Christianity has done. (FROM PHOTOGRAPHS BY C. R. SAVAGE.)] <br> Christianity has accomplished in Utah during that time: <br> I. It has secured by its moral achievements the respect and reverence to which it is entitled. It is no longer sneeringly referred to as "so-called Christianity," nor are its representatives referred to as "so-called Christians." On the contrary the Mormon organization seems anxious for Christian recognition, and its missionaries in the east plead for a hearing in Christian pulpits on the ground that they ought to be considered a Christian denomination. Truly this is a great change, for when Moody and Sankey were here in 1880 Mr. Moody was held up to repeated ridicule in the editorial columns of the Deseret News. His work was treated with the greatest disrespect by that paper. It even went so far as to tell him that uneducated young men in the Mutual Improvement Societies were capable of being his religious teachers. But if Mr. Moody were to hold meetings here now, the Deseret News would probably not be behind the other papers of the country in putting honor upon him and his work. <br> 2. Christianity has established in Utah the Christian home system as the permanent basis of society. This indicates that Christianity has wrought a moral revolution here, because, for nearly forty years the people had been taught that polygamy was the only proper basis of society.
