Show The Elizabeth Memorial Building and the four new wards of the Lintsing Hospital will soon be ready for dedication. The total cost of their erection has been something over $8,000.00. We had hoped that from this amount there might be funds available for part of the equipment but not so, for variation in exchange has lessened the purchasing power of a dollar a fourth. This fact makes it necessary to open the new hospital with very meagre equipment. Eight thousand dollars would not erect a very extensive hospital in America but those who have an investment in this hospital may well be proud of these substantial buildings of grey brick, with graceful tile roofs, well-lighted rooms, concrete floors and white wood work. The furnishings, tables, chairs, benches and all things that can be made locally, will also cost less than they would at home. But there are some things which cannot be made by the local carpenter or blacksmith and these will cost more than in America, for the war has made freight rates very high. The price of the iron beds we a~e to use is $3.33 each but the freight to China is $3.46. The r,Pw 'yards add fifty beds to the capacity of the hospital; fourteen of these are already provided for, leaving: 36 beds, (including bedding, hospital clothes, bed stand, stool, etc.) each $17.50 2 waiting and preaching rooms, (table, chairs, benches, gospels and hymn books) each $36.00 2 doctor's offices, (table, chairs, bookshelves) each $18.00 2 dispensaries and septic operating rooms, (tables, chairs, benches, stools, pails, basins, counter and desk), each $35.00 2 bath rooms, tubs (local make) stools, pails, racks, etc. each ... $15.00 4 service rooms-one for each ward screens, bedrests pitchers, basins, bed pans, etc. each ... $25.00 Operating room, (operating table, instrument stands, stools, sterilizer, instruments, etc.) $500.00 Recovery room, (one bed, etc.) ... $19.50 Laboratary, (microserope. apparatus, reagents, stains, etc.)... $200.00 Laundry, (tubs, boiler, washing machine, ironing board, flat irons, racks, etc.) $30.00 These are some of our unsupplied need3, very moderately estimated, which must be met before the new plant can be used to real advantage. Please remember that this growing work is for souls as well as for bodies and help by your prayers and gifts to meet these needs. Gifts may be sent to Mrs. W. W. FERRIER, Treasurer.
