Karl. Miller. Snow Basin Rulon Niohol, Little lItn. Ken Riggs, Brighton K Smith, Brishton October 2,. 19S6 It has been sane time sinoe our tal!{ ot last Bummer, It would be interesting to learn 01' the extent of the progress that has been made in atfiliation of the ski instruotors groups. YOll oannot expeot a great deal during the oft seaeon, however. It used to be my oontention that the summar was the season tor aooomplishing teata, ainoe most skiers have more time for oorrespondenoe, eto. The faot seems to be that people haTe enough 01' skiing during the winter And spring and don't oere to be bothered with work in the summer time. It has been diffioult to obtain interest here during th e surmner. There should be interest this time of year. No doubt you have realized thAt this type of projeot is the one requiring tremendous etfort. It is, however, a step in the ri~t direotion. And as you and I have disoussed, the only alternative for us is to keep pushing ahead. I attended the Intermountain Ski Association Board 01' Dlreotor~ meeting tho nther night and heard some interesting oonversation. It seems thet the Intermountain and the NBA are beBlnning to teel that the instruotors, 11ft and resort operators should have more to say in the affairs of organized skiing. This is the same thIng that you told the NationAl. At ASpen last spring. It would be my suggestion to let them Ask us next time. At least I do not teel that we Should depend on the National or the Divisions tor muoh hel;. W~it until we gain a little more strength. Would you send me any information that may he 8VR11able conoerninp; the progress ot your new teaohing manuAl? I would like to see this. As A ITIfttter ot taot, I do not have the old one. We Are in the prooess ot preparing a manual and are open far any ideas that you people may have. I still do not see why it would not be poaAible to work on a joint vonture. Most 01' the teohnirlue is basia in all divisions. Where there seems to be oontroversy, eaoh assooiation might add a supplement to olarity oertiin points that might be pertlnate to oertain geo~aphioAl areas. I would appreo1att hearing from you on the subjeot 01' the manual. Keep me intormed and pleaRe oall on us here tor any help that we may be able to otter. Let's see it we oan't get eome good oooperation and dissemination 01' intormation this season. Sinoerely. .' LUGGI FOEGER YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK P. O. BOX 123, CALIFORNIA ~. L l. -<: II' J(;, .
