Show SUGGESTIONS FOR THE UTILIZATION OF FUNDS FOR COMPETITION The Competition Committee plans on increasing its budget by selling memberships and raising racer's fees. The following is an outline suggesting ways and means of using these additional funds. First, an objective should be set bywhich the value and priority of programs can be evaluated. For instance, the objective of "the developnent of skiers capiable of competing on an international level." Secondly, programs decided as directly benificml to attaining this goal should be placed in an order of priodty. Here are a list of suggestions for possible programs - not in order of priority. 1) Since the incre.r!se in revenue is based on the premise of increasing the number of competitors than strides should be made to increase the number and efficiency of the races. Electric timing equipment and a committee to help organize and consult races in order to stream-line operations would be beneficial. 2) Divisional summer camps w~ich would help minimize costs by organizing transportation, lodging, coachUI.g, and rates. 3) Assist the University of Utah in strengthing the scholarship benefits for members of the race team; thereby, giving the Senior racer an opportunity of an education and continuing with his racing cg~eer. 4) Place aside each year some money towards the hiring of a Competitions Director. Therefore, part of his first year's salary would be guarenteed - this might enable his hiring a year inadvance provide ana~,in(\entive to increase the size of the organization to secure his future salary. 2 5) Support the Coaches System for the bettsr~E&t of coaching - the aim is the education of the coaches. Coaches clinics held in the north and south at least twice a year. The sponsoring of guest coaches to clinic the coaches and racers. 6) Purchase of uniforms for the Junior Alpine Team. 7) Video tape for training camps. 8) Enable divisional members to attend more FIS approved races. Try and get a car sponsored and student discowt rates for weekends with reservations. Let racers filling quota use the division Junior Alpine Teem uniforms. Try and fund their entry fees and provide a coach to accompany them - possibly on loan from a ski area until a competitions camiiilator can be hired. Work on reciprocal dorm housing for the competitors f~zm different divisions. 9) To help sell memberships and improve recreational and racer relationsmips competitors could assist with dryland clinics given at' the pre-season period. They could assist in checking equipment, answering questions on waxing, lead excercises, etc.; this service would be free for ISA members. These are just a few suggestions to stimulate others thinking for the formation of a well thought-out and organized program to markably improve the skiing quality of our competitors. Respectfully, B.
