Description The effects of bacterial infection on neutrophil kinetics have been studies for many years. This study measured the effects of a sub-lethal infection with E. Coli on the neutrophil storage pool (NSP), neutrophil proliferative pool (NPP), immature to total neutrophil (I/T) ratio, absolute neutrophil count (ANC), and the number and proliferatifve rates of colony forming unit granulocyte, erythrocyte, megakaryocyte, monocyte (CFU-GEMM), colony forming gunit granulocyte, monocyte (CDU-GM), and colony forming unit erythrocyte (CFU-E) in rats. During infection while the NSP and NPP were decreased, the I/T ratio and ANC were increased. This study also measured the number and poliferative rates on all three progenitor cells during infection.
