Title An engineering curriculum for 4th through 6th graders
Creator Carlson, haley
Subject STEM curriculum resource; elementary schools; Utah
Description The project that was completed was an engineering curriculum for 4th - 6th graders at Monroe Elementary School. The purpose of this program is to introduce the students to the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. In addition to encouraging participation in these fields, the program encourages higher education. The population at Monroe Elementary School represents a significant need for programs like this, as much of the population in underrepresented in the STEM fields. The principal of the school also expressed a need for an after-school program for these subjects. This curriculum teaches kids about the STEM fields, and gives them the opportunity to do a fun activity related to that field. In the future, this curriculum will be taught to the students by engineering students from the University ofUtah who are enrolled in a service-learning course.
