Description |
Utah has a very unique origin. Founded by religious refugees, it is famous for its nature but renowned for its industry. I wanted to capture these elements. The design is inspired by the desert sunrise color schema of black, red, and orange. Red and orange for our native and famous red rock and sandstone, black for the night and quality of our soil. I limited it to 5 design pieces to symbolize our 5 national parks, with the main focal piece being a hexagon, to symbolize the beehive of Deseret, as a rising sun across the landscape. The imagery is simple. Despite the darkness of the world around us, Utah rises like the morning sun, bringing hope and light to the world. The white line has 2 meanings. At starters it resembles the famous snow in the north (best snow on earth). But more so, it is a nod to the flag of the refugee. Utah bears a very unique history in that it was the only state founded by American religious refugees facing extermination, and that history has played a key role in how we have always felt and acted towards the refugees worldwide. Utah is the state where despite the antagonism and pessimism of the world, hope lives. Hope grows. And hope rises like the rising sun. Or Son, following the states Christian heritage. This is just a rough sketch, I only had ms paint to work with. I'm not sure things are centered as they ought to be, as I wanted the white line to be at the same level as the refugee flag's black one. Attached below is a slightly different proportioned one. |
