The purpose of this study is to shine attention on the Latinx community and how Latinx; adults navigate a world filled with trauma. I focus on understanding how Latinx individuals; receive support in their daily lives when trauma occurs or when past trauma resurfaces and if; they are comfortable speaking about their experiences. This study utilizes the Latino/a Critical; Race Theory conceptual framework and uses methods including interviews, field; notes/observations, and incorporating photography as an art form. My findings resulted in four; themes: Hablando en un Espacio de Incomodidad (Speaking in a Space of Discomfort),; Aprendiendo del Dolor (Learning from Pain), Abrazando el Apoyo (Embracing Support), and El; Poder de Fotos y Recuerdos (The Power of Photos and Memories). My findings indicated that,; like other individuals, the Latinx community faces traumatic experiences but needs the necessary; steps and tools to be able to heal and speak about their experiences. Due to this information, I; suggest there comes a change from within the Latinx community normalizing conversations; surrounding mental health and trauma, having more support for the community overall that is; culturally relevant, trauma-informed, flexible, affordable Latinx-focused mental health outreach,; and trauma-informed mental health dialogue and open conversations within schools. |
