Description |
"I drew from several meanings listed as the basis for the 125th anniversary flag but included a few of my own. THE BEEHIVE STATE - the Beehive takes center stage, boldly declaring who Utah is to the world (6 layers of the Beehive represent the 6 National Forests) THE BEE - the Bee represents several things; 1. The people of the state, each unique, and each with a different purpose. 2. It is returning to the hive that represent home. 3. The 8 visible parts (head, thorax, abdomen, 4 wings, stinger) represent the 8 National Monuments and the 2 antenna represent the 2 National Recreation Areas STATEHOOD - the white star represents Utah joining the Union in 1896 CROSSROADS OF THE WEST - the cross design intersects in the center, literally symbolizing Utah as the Crossroads of the West and as the joining point of the Transcontinental Railroad at Promontory Point RED AND WHITE CHECKER - The nautical flag for the letter U is used as the background of the flag representing the great salt lake 5 NATIVE TRIBES - the Outer layer of the pentagon honor the five Native Tribes of Utah: the Ute, Paiute, Navajo, Shoshone, and Goshute peoples. THE PENTAGON - Inner region Represents the 5 National Parks UTAH RED - represents the famous Red Rocks of Southern Utah MOUNTAIN WHITE - known for the greatest snow on earth, white represent the iconic snow capped Rocky Mountains of Utah LIBERTY BLUE - a carry over from the current flag, the blue represents the tradition of Utah" |
