Unplanned pregnancies make up nearly half of all pregnancies. This prompted the HER Salt Lake Project to offer free contraceptives to women in Salt Lake County, Utah. Discontinuation or switching of free contraceptives is linked to race, education level, socioeconomic status, and the choice of contraceptive method at enrollment. Women of lower education, women of color, and women of higher SES were more likely to discontinue or switch their contraceptive method than were white women, women of higher education, and women of lower SES. Understanding the sociodemographics associated with discontinuation can help researchers and healthcare providers attempt to provide better education about and access to appropriate contraceptive methods for women of various sociodemographics. |
