The 6 stars symbolize 6 important events in Utah history: 1847 LDS settlers arrive 1861 Transcontinental Telegraph completed in SLC 1869 Transcontinental Railroad completed 1870 Women given right to vote 1896 Statehood 2002 SLC Olympics The center hexagon relates to the beehive of the current flag and the principle of cooperative work among all Utahns. The white of the snowflake relates to the tourism industry and winter recreation centered around the greatest snow on earth. The blue symbolizes the mountains, lakes and rivers. The orange symbolizes the sandstone rock formations seen in Utah's national and state parks and around the state. |
