Description |
This flag has a lot going on. Perhaps too much. But individual items can be moved or removed all together. I have created vector patterns of each item that can be easily modified. In this particular flag I just added them all so as to demonstrate the possibilities. Mountain Outlines: The lines on the flag contain silhouettes of mountains surrounding Salt Lake (upper left), Ogden (Upper Right), Combs Ridge (lower left) and Logan (lower right). The combs ridge dip or pass where the freeway goes through has special significance to me due to being cut out by my great grandfather Thorald Clark Rich. He was one of the many workers who helped build the road. He was a bulldozer operator. I have multiple super 8 black and white film clips of him on his machine pushing rock and dirt from this site. The lower silhouettes also have added outlines of prominent natural structures such as Mexican Hat and Delicate Arch. Stars: I have added 3 stars to the flag that symbolize the past, present and future. We look at the past to learn from our mistakes, we plan for the future to leave a legacy and we stand in the present as a light and beacon to other states, the nation and world. Colors: This flag contains red, white, and blue as a tribute to where our foundation comes from and reflects or mirrors the patriotism and ideals of the founding fathers. In addition the white is a representation of our white capped mountains and recreational opportunities provided through winter sports. The Red also sits under the top mountains representing our natural resources and minerals. The red also sits above the lower mountains representing our gorgeous sunsets and natural vistas. Additional Symbols: The flag contains a buffalo which represents our diverse wildlife. The California Gull and Sego Lilly as our state bird and flower. The Arrowheads represent Utah's Native American Heritage. The patterns within the arrowheads are traces from off a pottery design. To me the patterns seem to echo the symbolism of the 3 stars. We learn from our past to create a better future. The beehive as a symbol of industry and hard work. |
