Description "This flag has five colors, representing the five Native American tribes of Utah. The colors are also the same colors used by many of those tribes. There are also five regions on the flag, which also represent the five tribes, as well as the five national parks found within the state. The red banner on top and blue on bottom represents the sunset over the Great Salt Lake. The red also represents the red rock found throughout Southern Utah. The white circle and stars represent the 'greatest snow on Earth' and the snow-capped mountains. The yellow and black represent the Beehive, as well as the 24 certified night sky areas (black for the sky, yellow for the stars) found throughout the state. The centerpiece of the flag forms the outline of Delicate Arch but also doubles as a Beehive, two of the most recognizable and iconic symbols of Utah. The beehive represents the Utah community working together to achieve common goals and to advance into the future. Delicate Arch represents Utah's iconic landscapes, as well as our diverse availability of outdoor recreational activities. The two stars are an obvious homage to the American flag, the first representing Utah itself and the second representing the nation. The two stars also represent the sun and moon, as the star in the red banner is the sun representing the hot deserts of Utah, and the star in the blue banner is for Utah's night sky, but also since it is in the 'lake' part of the flag it is a reflection of the moon on the water, as Utah also has many water-based recreational activities and locations, such as the many reservoirs and state parks. The two stars also represent Utah's past and future and also pay homage to our 2002 Olympics, as well as this being the start of the second century since statehood. The three main colors, red, white, and blue also pay homage to the American flag."
