For me, one of the most recognizable parts of Utah is its shape. This flag was designed to subtly display that shape in the negative space. In addition to being very recognizable, having the whole state on the flag is meant to help people see themselves and their communities in the flag. Without being overly complicated this flag shows off ALL of our wonderful home. Following the simplistic tone, a simplified, but recognizable, version of the Utah Deseret (beehive) is present as a primary reminder of the unique culture and emblems of our government, history and economy. The golden hue of the hive represents the prosperity and wealth of our natural resources. The white field is symbolic of the famous Utah salt and snow. And Finally, the blue stripes represent our three major water systems, perhaps our most precious resource in Utah; the great Salt lake water system, the lake severe water system and the Colorado river and it's tributaries.
